Mutton-Fat Jade Dunhuang Ceramic Teacup
Crafted from high-temperature fine porcelain, this tea cup features a jade-white glaze often described as “ivory white porcelain.” The surface is smooth, warm, and softly luminous, evoking the texture of fine jade or凝脂 (congealed cream). Under light, the glaze reveals a subtle semi-translucent depth with gentle ivory and blush undertones, creating an elegant stone-like quality reminiscent of natural jade.
The design is inspired by the Phoenix Feather motif from Cave 220 of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, one of the most significant cultural treasures along the Silk Road. This ancient pattern is reinterpreted through refined gold detailing, expressing the grandeur and artistic sophistication of Tang Dynasty aesthetics while maintaining a modern minimalist sensibility.
Each cup is finished with a soft matte-gloss glaze that diffuses light in a quiet, atmospheric way, similar to the faded beauty of ancient cave murals. The result is a calm, understated visual presence that enhances focus and ritual during tea preparation.
With a capacity of 1.7 fl oz (50 ml) and compact dimensions of 2.36 inches in width and 1.57 inches in height, the cup is designed for stable, comfortable handling. Its minimalist form supports Gongfu tea practice while remaining suitable for daily use. Odor-free and finely balanced, it offers both functional reliability and tactile comfort.
Blending cultural symbolism from Dunhuang heritage with contemporary ceramic craftsmanship, this tea cup embodies a harmonious balance of art and utility, offering a serene and contemplative tea-drinking experience.
