Japanese Mino Ware Aka-e Vermilion Teapot & Cup Set
One of the country’s most important ceramic centers with over 1,300 years of heritage. Mino Ware traces its roots back to early Sueki stoneware of the 7th century and later flourished during the Azuchi–Momoyama period, when Japanese tea culture and aesthetics were shaped by masters such as Sen no Rikyū and Furuta Oribe. Over time, it became one of Japan’s most internationally recognized ceramic traditions, especially after receiving acclaim at global exhibitions during the Meiji era.
Zouhou Kiln continues this legacy with a strong focus on traditional overglaze enamel craftsmanship (Aka-e). Founded in 1970 by master artisan Koizumi Zouhou after training at Koubei Kiln, the studio is recognized for its refined hand-painted techniques and has received multiple honors, including the Gifu Prefecture Governor’s Award and national ceramic design prizes. It has also been designated as a bearer of Tajimi City Intangible Cultural Property and entrusted with reproducing Important Cultural Property ceramics for the MOA Museum of Art, reflecting its high level of technical and historical credibility.
Each piece is carefully hand-finished: a high-fired porcelain base is coated in a deep vermilion glaze, then decorated with intricate floral patterns using mineral pigments and finished with a second firing to lock in color. Fine gold detailing highlights the edges, adding a subtle sense of luxury. The square teapot design showcases advanced kiln control, balancing clean geometry with daily usability—350ml capacity, smooth drip-free pouring, and a comfortable heat-resistant handle. The matching cups are designed to enhance the aroma and taste of various teas. Combining heritage, craftsmanship, and practical design, this set reflects the refined aesthetic of traditional Japanese tea culture in a modern form.
